From popular running races that bring the entire city to a thrilling halt, to international cycling competitions, traditional rowing regattas, and the largest youth football tournaments in southern Europe. Ready to break a sweat?
A Runner’s Paradise: Races and Marathons in Donostia
If there is one thing that characterizes locals and the thousands of visitors we welcome every year, it’s their passion for running. The city hosts events for all distances and skill levels.

Behobia – San Sebastián: The great myth. 20 kilometers of pure emotion from the border to the Boulevard, carried by cheering crowds. An experience every runner must live.

Zurich Marathon: One of the fastest, flattest, and most beautiful marathons in Europe. Ideal for smashing your personal best while running past the city’s most iconic spots.

Half Marathon: The perfect test in October. 21 kilometers on a flat and fast course, ideal as preparation for the winter season.
In addition to the major distances, the calendar offers special races for all audiences:
The King of the Sea: Rowing Regattas
You cannot fully grasp Basque sporting culture without looking to the sea. In early September, La Concha Bay transforms into a natural amphitheater to host the most traditional and spectacular event of the year.
The Bandera de la Concha is known as the “Rowing Olympics.” Traditional traineras (old fishing boats adapted for racing) battle the fierce Cantabrian Sea in a display of strength, synchronization, and rivalry between fishing villages, filling the streets with music, colors, and an unmatched festive atmosphere.

World Elite Cycling: The Klasikoa
If you visit Donostia in the summer, get ready to see the best international cyclists up close. The Basque passion for cycling (the famous “Orange Tide”) reaches its peak on the roads of the province.
The Clásica de San Sebastián (Klasikoa) is an UCI World Tour race held in August. Legendary climbs like Jaizkibel or the explosive wall of Murgil decide the winner before a spectacular and vibrant finish line on the Boulevard.
The Biggest Youth Sports Event: Donosti Cup
For one week in July, San Sebastian becomes the youth football capital of the world. The Donosti Cup attracts thousands of kids and their families from all five continents.
It is much more than a tournament: it is a celebration of coexistence, respect, and a true passion for sports, featuring spectacular opening ceremonies at the Anoeta stadium and matches scattered throughout the city and the province.
