He 59th International Fireworks Competition of Donostia-San Sebastián, an outstanding event in the Semana Grande or Great Week, is presented as an exceptional showcase of world pyrotechnics. This event not only celebrates the city’s festive tradition, but also serves as a competition where renowned pyrotechnic firms from various backgrounds demonstrate their mastery and innovative capacity in creating pyrotechnic shows. Below, I detail each participant and their distinctive characteristics in more depth:
- August 10: Pyrogeny fireworks (Germany). This Berlin firm has positioned itself at the forefront of European pyrotechnics thanks to its focus on technical innovation and the aesthetic design of its shows, which often incorporate cutting-edge technologies to create unique patterns and visual effects.
- August 11: Mediterranean pyrotechnics (Valencia). With more than a decade and a half of experience, this company has perfected the art of fireworks, combining tradition and modernity to offer shows that are true choreographies in the sky.
- August 12: Unique pyrotechnics (France). Founded in the 19th century, this family business has been passed down from generation to generation, adapting its savoir-faire to new times and technologies without losing the essence of the classic fire shows.
- August 13: Lopez Pyrotechnics (A Coruña). This Spanish institution, with a legacy of more than 150 years, is a benchmark in the integration of advanced pyrotechnic techniques and sustainability, ensuring safe and environmentally friendly shows.
- August 14: By Matteo Fireworks (Italy). This pyrotechnic house is famous for its meticulous attention to detail and precision in the execution of its pyrotechnic designs, which allows them to create true works of ephemeral art.
- August 15th: Valencian Pyrotechnics (Valencia). Recent winner of the Golden Shell, this company stands out for its constant search for innovation in the field of special effects and pyromusicality, elements that have revolutionized the traditional concept of fireworks.
- August 16th: Vulcano Pyrotechnics (Madrid). Known for its pyromusical shows, this firm combines music and visual effects in a synchronized way, creating multisensory experiences that capture the public’s imagination.
- 17 of August: Oleirense pyrotechnics (Portugal). With almost seven decades of experience, this company has cultivated an exceptional reputation in the production of large shows, being a pioneer in the use of advanced technologies for the safety and visual quality of its staging.
Each night, rigorous security measures will be taken, including restricting access to specific areas and providing advice to the public regarding safety and emergency management. Additionally, in the event of adverse wind conditions, launches could be suspended or delayed based on measurements taken at 10:30 p.m. and 10:40 p.m., and later at 10:50 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. if necessary.
