Discovering the Fishing Port, Aquarium and Paseo Nuevo

Donostia-San Sebastián, a jewel in the Basque Country, is famous for its rich history, vibrant culture and stunning natural beauty. Today, I will take you on a virtual journey through three of its most emblematic attractions: the Fishing Port, the Aquarium and the Paseo Nuevo.

Fishing port

The Fishing Port of San Sebastián is located at the eastern end of the La Concha bay, at the foot of the statue of the Sacred Heart that crowns Mount Urgull. This Gipuzkoa port has 400 berths and they are occupied at all times. It is interesting to know that, from the port, boat trips depart for anyone who wants to enjoy a pleasant journey through the bay.

The port is a place full of life, with fishermen arriving with their daily catch and restaurants serving the freshest seafood. Walking around the port is like taking a step back in time, with its historic buildings and traditional fishing boats. But the port is not only a place for fishermen, it is also a meeting place for locals and tourists, who come to enjoy the sea view and delicious food.

Aquarium

The San Sebastián Aquarium, one of the oldest in Europe, offers a fascinating journey through the oceans. With more than 100 years of history, this aquarium is a place where you can learn, have fun and share the passion for the sea. The Aquarium is equipped with one of the best oceanariums in Europe, which consists of a spectacular 360º tunnel where you can see sharks, as well as a dozen aquariums that house jellyfish, seahorses and various types of fish.

The Aquarium is not just a place to see fish, it is a place to learn about the ocean and its importance to our planet. With interactive exhibits and educational programs, the Aquarium is a valuable resource for marine education. Whether you’re interested in marine biology, ocean conservation, or just want to have a fun day, the Aquarium has something for everyone.

New Walk

The Paseo Nuevo de San Sebastián is a fabulous walk that borders the entire Urgull mountain. From the Aquarium it goes all the way around the back of Urgull to end up at one end of the Old Town, next to the Kursaal. It is one of the most beautiful and peaceful walks in the city, since the entire walk takes place next to La Concha Bay and the Cantabrian Sea.

Paseo Nuevo is more than just a walk, it is a place to relax, enjoy the ocean view and breathe the fresh sea air. With benches along the way, it’s the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by. And with its proximity to the Old Town, it’s the perfect place to start or end a day exploring the city.

In short, Donostia-San Sebastián is a city that has a lot to offer, from its rich history and culture to its impressive natural beauty. Whether you are interested in fishing, marine life or simply enjoying a quiet walk by the sea, there is something for everyone in this beautiful city.
